Yes, some of you will combine these in conformity to the fashionable both/and formula that this is a tragedy and someone is to blame. But does tragedy happen or does our culture require that every mishap, accident, tragedy find someone at fault?

Communist revolutionary Che Guevara has become a fashion icon among the affluent young.

Here’s the question: Is “Che” an image that points to the right kind of world?
Do the affluent young idealize Che because they are so compromised with the consumptive lifestyle that is so fashionable to despise? Is it thus a form of self hate? Is Che a postmodern, more secular and more political substitute for Jesus? One who cares for the poor, but executes prisoners without a fair trial? Is he, then, a symbol of anger against the system? A Savior who kicks butt and takes names?

We know now by watching Castro’s Cuba that Che’s vision and trajectory would have dehumanized
the world in monstrous ways. Should we pity those who sport “Che” T shirts because they are apparently ignorant of their ignorance of history? Or, do we pity those who don’t “get” Che because they may know history but don’t “feel” the moment of history we’re in? Or, is it just a T-shirt?

Flash Mob — A flash mob (or inexplicable mob) is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, then quickly disperse. (Wikipedia).

Wikipedia tells us that the first flash mob took place in 2003. However, others assert that flash mobs have a much longer history than this. The rendering below portrays a “Singular Act of Female Rebellion” circa 1844 on the island of Tasmania. Certainly, the common sense of it is that people have always formed “mobs” suddenly for political or social purposes.

We continue to report on the persistent rumor that a “Flash Mob” is being conspired by Voxtropolis, the City of Voices, and M, our social network, to take place somewhere in the second week of February. We will report on all details as they emerge.

In this post we continue to spread the rumor of a “FLASH MOB”
supposedly scheduled for the second week of February. [The image below
is of a “FLASH MOB” that took reportedly place in NYC this past August.]

An astute reader of “the City of Voices” notes that in our last post
we mentioned two events that may offer up clues as to the details
the “Mob”. If we knew where the World Music Jam
will take place, then we could move a little closer to breaking
the code.

Excellent observation. The World Music Jam is also taking place
in Orlando. That means that the two events sponsored by Voxtropolis
and M (i.e. The World Music Jam and Humana 2.08) are both taking place in the same city.
I feel that we are tightening the noose on the information we need.

Niza and I will pass along to you any additional information as soon as
we get it ourselves.

Niza and I are enthused to help spread a rumor.
It seems that Voxtropolis, the City of Voices,
and M, our social network, are co-ordinating a
“FLASH MOB” for the second week of February. The image below is of a
“Flash Mob” that took place in London’s Victoria Station this past April.

What of the details? You ask.
Our best guess…
Two items dominate our thinking. First, the Voxtropolis
World Music Jam is scheduled for February 8 and 9.

Second, HUMANA 2.08, a conference on the future of humanity
sponsored by Voxtropolis and M, takes place in Orlando.
Thus we suspect that the
“MOB” will “FLASH” somewhere in the vicinity of one of those two events.

We will keep you up to date with the latest developments
of this social phenomena.
